Bundled Chutes

Cities are markets, cafés, construction sites, and children at play, a dynamic mix of sights, intersections, and social buzz that shape the urban fabric. Bundled Chutes explores an architecture that captures that vibrancy within a large urban university campus. The ground level brings public and private spaces together on an active playground through motion, featuring a rollerblade park and derby rink. The unified whole—a collection of distinct elements intertwined and woven together much like individuals within a community—forms a unique jamming of programs and intersection of sightlines. Circulation plays a pivotal role in this design, tying together a bumbling bundle of chutes and ladders.

Overlooking Chapultepec Park, students engage in a cross-pollination of ideas—a bit of voyeurism—through a core ramp circulation. A C-shaped wrapper encloses the bundled volumes, providing solar protection while maintaining natural light and openness within.
